Serving a city and having an office there are different claims
A service-area business can explain where and how it serves customers without claiming offices it does not have. Local SEO should connect accurate business information, genuine coverage and useful service content. Google Business Profile eligibility and website content are separate decisions, especially for businesses delivering services entirely online.

Plan your search prioritiesWhy does the distinction matter?
A website can offer a service across Australia. That does not automatically make every city a physical business location. A regional prospect needs to know whether the business can deliver the work, how collaboration happens and whether any local attendance is available or separately arranged.
Google’s Business Profile guidelines require accurate representation and set conditions for storefront and service-area businesses. A business working solely online should check eligibility rather than assume a website service area creates a right to a local profile.
What should a regional service page explain?
Give the page a practical role. Explain the actual service, the audience it suits and how delivery works for the region. Include genuine relevant context where it affects the work. Avoid filling the page with suburb names that do not change the answer.
For a hypothetical professional practice serving clients remotely, a useful page could explain the consultation process, document exchange, meeting arrangements and the kind of brief needed. If an on-site visit is possible only by agreement, the page should reflect that accurately.
Which location statements need evidence?
| Statement | Evidence or clarification required |
|---|---|
| We have an office here | An actual eligible business location with the appropriate operating arrangements. |
| We serve clients in this region | A genuine delivery capability and an accurate explanation of how it works. |
| We have relevant local experience | Permitted actual work or knowledge that supports the claim. |
| We can attend on site | The real availability, scope and any separately agreed travel arrangements. |
When does another location page add value?
Create a separate page when there is useful information for that audience and a clear search or navigation purpose. The service should remain coherent with the national offer. A page that changes only the place name gives a reader little additional help.
Sometimes a strong national page with a clear coverage section is the better resource. In other cases, a region has a genuine delivery difference or a substantial relevant question to answer. Review the need before choosing the number of pages.
A regional page should also connect to the main service, relevant examples and useful planning resources. It should not become an isolated destination that repeats the homepage and asks for contact without explaining the offer.
What should you check on the business profile?
Review the business name, category, public contact information, operating arrangements and website destination. Apply the platform’s current rules to the actual business. Avoid creating additional profiles or virtual-office claims merely to cover more search terms.
Keep the public website and legitimate profiles consistent. If the business changes its contact details or service arrangements, update the relevant sources. A prospective client should not have to reconcile conflicting descriptions before making an enquiry.
How do you judge whether the approach helps?
Review the regional queries and the pages appearing for them, then compare enquiries with the areas and services the business can genuinely support. A geographic impression is not automatically a suitable lead. Sales feedback can reveal whether delivery expectations were clear.
